Gotsch to Receive Book In Hand Award

The New Mexico Book Association will present its annual Book-in-Hand Award to writer and radio interviewer Connie Gotsch Dec. 5th in Santa Fe. The Book-in-Hand award recognizes outstanding initiatives for getting books into the hands and minds of readers,

Gotsch is the Program Director of KSJE-FM, public radio in Farmington, New Mexico, and Producer/Host of Write on Four Corners, an author interview show. She has written two novels, A Mouth Full of Shell, and Snap Me a Future.

In A Mouth Full of Shell, university politics jeopardize Professor Betsy Craig’s career for reasons she has not created.  Gossip rips apart her personal relationships.
Anyone who’s ever struggled with office politics, been threatened with destruction by problem not of her making, or has gone on a journey of self-discovery will be interested in A Mouth Full of Shell.

Snap Me A Future decries pot hunters who raid archaeological sites for artifacts.
Readers follow the adventures of Shelby McCoy, the once tough investigative reporter now working her way back into journalism after a horrific attack by the subject of one of her articles.  While pursuing a story in the beautiful Four Corners, she comes face-to-face with a knife-wielding antiquities thief.

Both of Gotsch’s books are published by dlsijpress.com. Both have won National Federation of Press Women and New Mexico Press Women Communication Contest Awards.

In August 2009 Gotsch will bring out a novel for readers age 8 to 12 called Belle’s Star with Artemesia Press. For information go to dlsijpress.com apbooks.net, or conniegotsch.com

Gotsch Photos Accepted into Carson City Show

The Northern Nevada Railway Art Expo has accepted two black-and-white photos taken by artist Connie Gotsch of the Santa-Fe Lamy, New Mexico Spur Line for a show running July 17 to August 17 in Carson City, Nevada.

The show is a fund raiser for restoration of the Virginia and Truckee Railroad, the short line connecting Carson City with Virginia City.

Gotsch says, “I’ve always gotten a kick out of the fact that Santa Fe Railroad’s main line doesn’t come anywhere near Santa Fe, and a spur connects the city to the main line at Lamy. The railroad offers tourist trips to Lamy from Santa Fe, so I took one, and found these shots.” She uses a blend of two photographic styles - shooting with small cameras to catch a moment, but with a deep appreciation for the printing techniques of Ansel Adams.

Gotsch has shown photos in the Four Corners and New Mexico for the past 18 years. Last February, she won an award for Best Two Dimensional Photo in a show entitled Faces of Women, for a black-and-white image of a woman selling soft drinks at a temple in X’ian, China. Faces of Women was put on by the Las Vegas Arts Council in Las Vegas, New Mexico.

Gotsch is also a writer who has had two novels, ‘Snap Me a Future, ’and ‘A Mouth Full of Shell,’ published by DLSIJ Press. She will publish a youth novel ‘Belle’s Star’ with Artemesia Publishing in 2009. apbooks.net
